Arnaud de Cheurlin in the Hachette Wine Guide
The Cheurlins are omnipresent in the Aube. This estate has a 6-hectare vineyard. The jury's preference went to the Brut Réserve (75% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay from the 1996 and 1997 harvests). It is a mature and balanced champagne, pleasantly fruity both on the nose and the palate, direct on the attack, and quite long.
We love this beautiful region of Barséquanais (Bar-sur-Seine), its small gardens, its true winemakers, and its champagnes, which are among the most interesting in the Aube along with those from Ricey…
Arnaud de Cheurlin frequently takes the lead in our blind tastings. In fact, the producer of the brand is Eisenträger, a German from Franconia, a region known for its excellent wine. Allied by marriage to the Cheurlins, he offers a range of champagnes of remarkable quality. The rosé is dark, made in the local style with a long maceration: fruity flavors of wild strawberry and raspberry. It will evolve splendidly if you let it age a bit. The Brut has a slightly vegetal nose, with notes of mushroom and cooked honey. The attack is direct, and the wine is fresh, lively, and precise, with a hint of cocoa. The Cuvée Prestige is a blend of very young Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It has a straw color, with a bouquet of wax, acacia, white flowers, and nougat. On the palate, it is a powerful wine with somewhat cooked flavors and a honeyed quality.
